Deep Tissue

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage aims to bring change to deeper layers of muscle and fascia.  Unlike a Therapeutic Massage which focuses more on superficial tissues, the focus of a Deep Tissue Massages is to bring change to deeper tissues and structures in the body.

Does it hurt?

Deep Tissue doesn’t always mean deep pressure.  Often, changes can occur with static sustained pressure or friction.  Deep Tissue Massage shouldn’t be painful. During the session, clients are always encouraged to communicate their preferences for pressure in various areas.

What are the benefits?

This form of Bodywork is a highly effective method for releasing chronic tension and stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries.

Deep tissue massage sometimes helps to lessen pain. For example, research published in an  April 2014 issue of Manual Therapy found that deep tissue massage to posterior calf muscles combined with self-stretching exercises helped reduce participants’ pain associated with plantar fasciitis.
